Process

One character, four passes — fast to slow, loose to sure.

scroll slowly, it's how I draw

Character with a backpack in a boxing stance, loose blue construction sketch
  1. stage 01 / 04

    Construction

A bean for the torso, boxes for the fists, one line for the spine. Blue, so I can ignore it later.

blue pencil = permission to be wrong

Character with a backpack in a boxing stance, loose blue construction sketch
  2. stage 02 / 04

    Line

Commit to the contour on top of the construction. Heavier where the form turns away, lighter where it catches light.

    stop early

Boxer character in a guard stance, clean line art
  3. stage 03 / 04

    Values

Three greys decide what reads first: the guard, then the face, then everything else.

    squint test

Boxer character rendered three times: dark grey values, lighter values and colour flats
  4. stage 04 / 04

    Colour

Colour goes on last — one warm beige after a page full of grey.

    finally

Boxer character in colour, beige flat colours with soft shading
Soldier character with helmet, vest and gear, line art

case 02 · the soldier

Line only, for now.

Gear is just boxes with straps. Helmet, vest, pouches — every piece gets its own construction before a single clean line goes down.

values next week, maybe
